Steve Jobs

Posted Oct 11th, 2011 in Toys, Tech, Work, FYI

Though Steve Jobs has passed away just a few short days ago, I am delighted to see that the residual effect of his life, is still permeating in my life.

Today while sitting down for a sushi lunch, my iPhone 4 rang, and a customer who we had just launched a new website for just 2 days ago was calling. Prior to lunch I had just sent her an invoice via Invoice2Go, a wonderful invoicing app I found on the iTunes Store for my iPhone. The customer was calling to let me know that she had received my invoice and for some technical support.

Since she was calling for technical support, I immediately pulled up my iPad 2. Using Safari, I logged into her control panel on CMSIntelligence our evolving technology platform for supporting websites. I wasn't within range of a Wi-Fi network, but thanks to the 3G on my iPad and the speed of Safari it took less than 20 seconds for me to get onto her control panel.

After a couple of minutes of trying to assist the customer, I realized I needed to see what she was doing. I used Join Me, another incredible app from the iTunes Store that helps me to see my customers Desktop on their computer. I then realize she was using Microsoft Internet Explorer and that's why she couldn't do what she was trying to accomplish. I explained to her that if she downloaded either Firefox or Safari I would be able to help her further. For some reason she just chose Safari. Thank God LOL :-)

Anyway after completing the technical support call, I finished my lunch and went back to my office. When I arrived to my desk I immediately opened up Sparrow, a wonderful mail application I downloaded from the Mac App Store on my MacBook Pro. I like Sparrow because it allows me to use multiple mail accounts including my MobileMe e-mail address from Apple.

Now there was an e-mail in my inbox from another customer. The e-mail contained a photo that the client wanted me to use on the website. When I opened up the photo it was quite large and my Sparrow mail program had gone behind the larger window. No problem, I'll just slide this larger window over to my 24 inch LED Cinema Display from Apple.

Suddenly the phone rang and my wife was calling to ask if I would like to just stay home and relax tonight, maybe we could watch a movie or something. I agreed that I just needed to relax a little bit tonight and told her that I would immediately log onto the iTunes Store via the Apple TV she bought me last Christmas. Realizing that we had seen some of these movies and the rest were really our taste I decided to quickly browse my iTunes library on my MacBook Pro but from the Apple TV. I then realized that we had not yet watched “X-Men: First Class”, that I had bought from the iTunes Store the other day. There are some movies that I will simply rent from the iTunes Store, and there are other movies that are just worth buying to add to my iTunes library.

After supper, I quickly showed my wife the movies that I would like to watch and asked her if that was to her approval and she agreed, but was concerned how we might watch it on the TV since it was in my iTunes library on my MacBook Pro. “No problem honey -- we'll just stream it from the iTunes library to the Apple TV.” I said with a big smile on my face. She said; "You can do that?” LOL :-)

I actually have my iTunes library directly connected to my Apple Time Capsule via an external drive. This way I can use my MacBook Pro's storage space for all of my customers files.

Anyway after we had watched the movie, my wife yawned and asked; “What time is it?” To which I responded by looking at my iPod Nano which was now nested in the LunaTik Watchband that I bought from the Apple Store just a few weeks ago. Anyway it was quite late so we headed off to bed, but not before docking my iPhone and iPad which I knew would need to have a full charge for my meeting in the morning.

To those who were close to Steve Jobs; I send you my deepest condolences for your loss. If a man whom I never knew has brought to me this level of effectiveness and joy in general, then I can only imagine how much he has brought to your life.

Steve Jobs, I'm certain you will be missed… Farewell and may the next stage of life be as fruitful as the 1st.
